DONALD OVERTON, JR.

Donald Overton

Executive Director Veterans of Modern Warfare

Donald Overton, Jr. currently serves as the Executive Director for Veterans of Modern Warfare (VMW).  A veteran himself, Mr. Overton has over 15 years of active service and leadership within multiple Veterans Service Organizations.  He possesses a diverse occupational background that includes positions at the federal, state and local levels of government, not-for-profit leadership, and extensive volunteer experience.

Mr. Overton entered active duty in February 1987.  Upon completion of both Basic Training at Ft. Jackson, South Carolina and Advanced Individual Training at Ft. Gordon, Georgia, he was awarded the MOS 31K, Combat Signaler. He entered the Airborne School, Ranger Indoctrination Program, HALO School and ultimately an assignment to HHC 3rd BN 505th Parachute Infantry Regiment 82nd Airborne Division.

In August 1990, he deployed with the Advance Party 82nd Airborne Division to Saudi Arabia in preparation of Operations Desert Shield / Desert Storm. He was wounded in combat in March 1991 and subsequently medically retired from the military in June 1992.

After he retired from the military, Mr. Overton graduated Magna Cum Laude from East Carolina University with a bachelor’s degree in social work. He is currently working toward a Masters degree in Public Administration.

Donald is married to Kimberly (Mariner) and they have two children.
